Valdez - LuluBelle Boat Trip

Yesterday we spent the day on the LuluBelle, a sightseeing boat, with Captain Fred. He was an interesting tour guide if a bit too much of a talker. It would have been good if he had just been quiet for a bit. We went all the way to the Columbia Glacier. It rained all the way, so no blue skies. But we did see some wildlife, including a raft of sea otters.

The day was pretty long as the Captain took us into the open seas to try to find whales. The boat rocked pretty hard, so a few people had a bit of a problem being comfortable. No seasickness for me though. I met some very nice people on the trip - Nina (a quilter) and her husband Floyd, Lori and her husband Mike, Sue and her spouse and some very nice young couples from Germany and Australia. I enjoyed talking and listening to these people. The icebergs we passed were impressive and even a bit scary.

This is a trip that would be better on a nice day, but my spouse and our fellow travelers made it a great day despite the weather!

  1. When we went to Alaska many years ago and took a small tour boat and saw these icebergs, I realized why we call the freezer packs for our coolers BLUE ICE... it is really blue. You got a nice picture.. you were pretty close....
